How it's calculated
Gross profit = revenue − cost of goods
Contribution = gross profit − shipping − payment fees − ad spend
Net profit = contribution − fixed costs
Example
- $50,000 revenue minus $17,500 cost of goods is $32,500 gross profit (65%).
- Minus $4,000 shipping, $1,690 fees and $12,000 ads leaves $14,810 contribution (29.6%).
- Minus $1,905 fixed costs leaves $12,905 net profit (25.8%).

Questions
-
Does Shopify show my profit?
Shopify can report gross profit for products that have a cost per item set. It does not include ad spend, carrier costs or app bills, so it is not your net profit.
-
Which payment fees should I use?
The rate on your plan, which depends on your country and card type. If you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, add Shopify's transaction fee to the rate.
