# Goal filters

> Narrow a goal to the events that actually count.

A filter tests one property of the conversion event. Add several and they all
have to hold, so "orders over 50 in the US" is two filters on one goal rather
than two goals.

## Operators

| Operator | Matches |
| - | - |
| `exact` | The property equals your value. |
| `is_not` | The property does not equal your value. |
| `icontains` | The property contains your value, ignoring case. |
| `not_icontains` | The property does not contain your value, ignoring case. |
| `regex` | The property matches your regular expression. |
| `not_regex` | The property does not match your regular expression. |
| `gt` / `gte` | Greater than, or greater than or equal to. |
| `lt` / `lte` | Less than, or less than or equal to. |
| `is_set` | The property is present. Takes no value. |
| `is_not_set` | The property is absent. Takes no value. |

## Choosing a property

Filter on properties your events actually carry. The quickest way to see what is
available is [Event logs](/docs/reports/event-log), which shows real events with their
real properties — more reliable than guessing a name from your store's
documentation.

> [!WARNING]
>
> A filter naming a property your events do not carry will match nothing, and a
> goal that matches nothing reports zero conversions rather than an error. If a
> goal is unexpectedly empty, check the property name first.
