# Create a property

> Set up the container that holds one store's data.

A property is one site. Everything Soran records — events, orders, ad spend,
goals, reports — belongs to a property, and nothing is shared between them. If
you run several stores, or you are an agency holding several clients, each one
gets its own property, and switching between them switches the whole product.

## Before you start

The first time you sign in, Soran asks four questions: your profile, how you
heard about Soran, your business, and what you are here to solve. Your answers
to the last two decide which numbers the product puts in front of you first.
Only the profile picture is optional.

## Add a property

The wizard has four steps. Shopify stores have three — see step 4 for why.

**1. Enter your website URL**

Type your domain, like `acme.com`. Soran then reads the site so you do not
have to describe it: it fetches the page, reads the content, detects your
platform, and extracts your brand details.

This is a wait inside step 1, not a step of its own. On a
password-protected development store there is no storefront to read, so the
scan finds nothing and you fill the details in yourself.

**2. Check what Soran found**

You get a filled-in draft to correct rather than a blank form. Review the
property name, a short line on what the site sells or does, the category,
the reporting currency, the timezone, and the logo.

Currency and timezone are worth a second look. Every report converts money
into the currency you choose here, and every date boundary — what counts as
yesterday — follows the timezone.

You can also add teammates now under **Who else can access this**, or leave
it and invite them later.

**3. Choose what to optimize for**

Pick what this property should optimize for. It is optional and easy to change
later, so an answer now is not a commitment.

**4. Start sending data**

Your property exists at this point. Data starts flowing the first time a
page loads on your site, and loading a page yourself counts — the check
stays idle until a real pageview arrives.

**Shopify stores skip this step.** Creation hands you straight to the
Shopify connection instead, because a Shopify storefront reports through
the theme app embed and checkout through the app pixel Soran installs during
authorization. Pasting a snippet as well would count every page twice.
