# Connect your store

> Link Shopify so orders, products, and customers flow into Soran.

Connecting Shopify does two things: it gives Soran your orders, products, and
customers, and it installs tracking on your store. Most of it happens for you.
One switch does not, because Shopify reserves it for the merchant.

> [!NOTE]
>
> You need a property first. See [Create a
> property](/docs/get-started/create-a-property).

## Two ways in

You can start from either end and land in the same place:

* **From Shopify.** Install Soran from Shopify, and you arrive with your store
already named. Soran matches it to a property, or sends you to register one.
* **From Soran.** Create a property for your store, and creation hands you
  straight to the connection.

Each step is worked out from your store's actual state rather than held in the
page, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off.

## What happens

**1. Name your store**

If Soran does not already know which store this property reports on, it
asks. Arriving from Shopify skips this — Shopify named the store on the way
in.

**2. Approve Soran on your store**

Soran hands you to Shopify, Shopify asks you to approve the app, and you
come back.

Approving is also what installs checkout tracking: Soran creates the app
pixel over Shopify's Admin API during authorization. **Checkout and
thank-you page events start flowing with no further work from you.**

**3. Switch on the storefront**

This is the one step only you can do. An app may not write to a Shopify
theme without the merchant's consent, so Soran cannot throw this switch for
you.

Use the button in the flow to open your theme editor, or do it by hand:
in your Shopify admin, open **Online Store → Themes → Customize → App
embeds** and switch on **Soran**.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Without the theme embed, your storefront reports nothing — no pageviews,
> no product views, no cart actions. Checkout still works, so the store
> looks connected while most of the funnel is missing.

The step closes itself as soon as your first storefront pageview arrives,
which only the theme embed produces. Soran cannot tell "embed off" from "no
visitors yet", so once you have opened the editor you can also confirm it
yourself with **I've turned it on**.

## You do not need the snippet

The theme app embed replaces the install snippet. Do not paste both — you would
count every page twice. [Install the tracker](/docs/get-started/install-the-tracker)
is for sites that are not on Shopify.
